Live-in Caregivers looking for Employment
Live-in caregivers are persons who have requisite qualifications in terms of education and relevant experience to provide care for children, elderly persons or persons with disabilities in private homes without supervision. Live-in caregivers have to live in the homes where they work in Canada.
Who can apply?
Requirements for a foreign nanny are:
- A written contract with your employer in Canada
- Successfully completion of a course of study which is equivalent to secondary / high school in Canada (12 years of school education)
- Completion of six months of full-time training in a classroom setting or completion of one year of full-time paid employment (including at least six months of continuous employment with one employer). Areas of study could be early childhood education, geriatric care, pediatric nursing or first aid.
- Ability to speak read and understand either English or French so you can function on your own in your employer’s home.
- Application for a work permit should be submitted as a live-in caregiver before entering Canada.
If and when you complete a two year period of service with a Canadian employer within a three year time frame, you are eligible to apply for permanent residence inside Canada as a part of live-in caregiver program.
